WPA

Wi-Fi Protected Access

WPA

WPA-PSK

WPA2-AES

WPA is better than WEP. Each new release of a Wireless Encryption Protocol is meant to address weaknesses exposed in earlier versions. Encryption protocols in general are mathematical algorithms used to scramble the data beyond recognition. you put in "My Bank account number is 1234567" and "001FC32BA20F" is what is transmitted.

As you know what is "crackable" and what holes computer software has changes every day and is relative to the amount of time and resources devoted to breaking it.

PSK = pre-shared key, a shared word or phrase that is used on both ends of the network - transmitter and receiver - to be able to decipher the math applied to scramble the transmission.

Obviously the higher level of security you choose the better. 128 bit encryption is better than 64, 256 is better still. In a small office/home network you should ensure all your hardware/software is capable of supporting the level you choose.
