Vista UAC

Managing User Account Controls

Microsoft implemented Vista UAC (User Account Controls) for multiple reasons, all good reasons, not only does the new UAC technology apply to Vista releases it has also been applied to Server 2008.

It does present a security improvement and a barrier to application high-jacking which is a great concern in Microsoft's world and yours. Trojans, worms, and spyware are never going to disappear, we can only improve our defenses.

However many people would like to massage their settings to make UAC a little less bothersome.

Start | All Programs | Accessories | Run

type in: secpol.msc

Double click Local Policies

Double click Security Options

Review your choices under each UAC option. Use the Explain tab to help understand the impact of each security policy.

Use this sparingly as Vista UAC does aid in your computers overall security, however, you are the best judge of your local environment. Give UAC a little time, it is more of a bother as you set your system up but will decrease over time.

As it is impossible for me to try this on every version of Vista please see below for a possible alternative.

vista uac

Administrative Tools | System Configuration | Tools tab

Select disable UAC.
