Using Outlook with Gmail
Are you interested in using Outlook with Gmail? Gmail accounts are very popular, some like the conveniece of web access from any computer, some like the free part. Whatever your personal preferences are the question of; can I set up Outlook to read my Gmail? The answer, of course, is yes. This can be managed at your main page after you log in.
The difference is in the port numbers. Computers use ports to communicate, if the exchange is not configured to take place on the correct port, chances are it won't happen. All Web information is done through port 80. The typical e-mail receiving port is 110 and port 25 is used for outgoing. Gmail does not use the standards ports, but it's easy enough to set up.
Change Your Gmail settings
Log in to Gmail, in the upper right, select Settings.
Next Select Forwarding and POP:
As shown below you need to select between
Enable POP for all mail -or- for mail that arrives from now on.
Save Your Settings.

In general what you need to do in Outlook is to create a new e-mail Account, enter the properties of that account, which will include your Gmail Log In information, and ensure the incoming and outgoing ports are configured correctly. The specific steps are as follows:

You want to create a POP3 account, then select Next
Enter the name you would like displayed
Enter your full Gmail e-mail address.

Select the Internet E-mail radio button....Next
Under

These should appear filled in from the previous step.
Under Server Information complete:
- Incomoning mail server(POP3) enter: pop.gmail.com
- Outgoing mail server enter: smtp.gmail.com
Under Logon Information complete:
In User name enter your full gmail address again
Enter your password twice, as required.
Select More Settings
On the General Tab, under Mail Account type Gmail, or a name for you to identify this account.
Select, the Outgoing Server tab, and then select My outgoing server requires Authentication, as shown in the graphic below.
Select, Use same settings as my incoming mail server
Select the Advanced Tab
As seen in the graphic below, select This server requires an encrypted connection, the POP3 port will change to 995, you will need to change the SMTP port to 465.
Click OK, then you can Test Account Settings, then Next, and Finish.

As you can see the Google end is pretty simple, the Outlook end, while there are a lot of steps, it flows pretty easily from one step to the next.
