Email Source

Is it spam, or my long lost cousin?

Ever been curious about an email source? In the graphic below you can see Gregory is very concerned and is sending help.

You can view more detail about this message including the source email address.

You can use this technique to safely preview the message content.

email source

In Outlook Express highlight the message and right click on it to bring up the menu, select Properties, and then the Details tab.

Here you will see the the senders full email address in the return path. There will be a full breakdown of email servers and time stamps as well as the intended recipient...don't be surprised if it's not you. If you select Message Source you can continue to view more information including the contents.

In Outlook 2007 it is a little different. In the message menu you will need to select Message Options. The detailed information is available in the Internet headers box.

As an interesting side note...after doing this the message still appears bold as if it is still unread.
